"The residency was by far the most artistically excellent and profoundly inspiring residency we have ever hosted. Latsky’s work, From the Limb, created opportunities to offer panel discussions, lectures, outreach and performances that were not only superb in their artistry but also of interest to wide ranging audiences."

Chris Johnson, Associate Professor
Director of Dance, Department of Theatre Arts, Beloit College.

GIMP
an interdisciplinary residency

An interdisciplinary residency program that celebrates fighting spirit and vigor through theater, dance, film and social discourse.

(Click here to read Chris Johnson's Beloit College residency recommendation)

GIMP’s mission is to create an environment for dialogue and exposure to the disability arts through film and a live dance performance (formerly titled From the Limb). Through participation in rehearsals, performances, outreach activities and forums, host communities will have a hands-on experience with the artists and their process. This residency is ideal for universities where various departments can be involved.

GIMP turns on its head accepted notions of dance, performance and body image. This is an exploration which dives into the heart of difference, voyeurism and the unexpected. Latsky and company have created a piece of work that is a natural and completely unique vehicle for dialogue, increased understanding and civic engagement.

GIMP Offers:
• The Pedigree of Bill T. Jones
• The Virtuosity of Heidi Latsky
• The Daring Evolution of Disability
• The Shattering of Stereotypes

GIMP will spark dialogue and community engagement!

In addition to the artistry onstage,
YOUR VENUE WILL ALSO GAIN:

• A diversity of articulate voices (a ready-made panel discussion.)
• A genre-shattering showcase of cutting edge disability film. No handkerchief necessary, no heroism required.
• A choreographer who is also a degreed psychologist.
• A critically acclaimed disability advocate and lecturer.
• A choreographer who can set a work on local dancers.
• A dancer with expertise working with HIV communities.

GIMP's Components:

Outreach Programs

The 'Unmasked' Program
- Physical disability focus
- Terminal illness focus

Movement Programs for Healthcare Professionals
- Skills building

The goal of these programs is to reduce stress, improve coping skills and introduce to a new audience the expressive nature of dance. Although it lends itself to patients and caregivers during crises and chronic illness, the program has also been shown to benefit people at any stage of their life.
